LOFOTEN, Northern Lights and Fjords
PRICE: 3’000€ - 10 DAYS
You will embark on a journey of exploration starting in the Lyngen Alps, on latitudes well above the Arctic Circle where at this time of the year we have good chances to experience the magic of the Northern Lights. Headed south, we will be crossing the heart of Lofoten archipelago, a balanced mix between cruising and discovery, bathed by the special sunlight of the Arctic summer. The Lofoten Islands, an archipelago in the Nordland region of Norway, are renowned for their dramatic scenery, featuring mountains falling straight into deep blue fjords, doted with local fishing villages. The Archipelago is possibly one of the most scenic cruising grounds on the planet, yet far to reach by sailboat other than for the locals, with white sandy beaches contrasting a rugged coastline and crystalline waters. It also presents the fascination of very dynamic sailing, with changing wind directions, tidal currents and the requirement of combining good passage planning with eye-ball navigation.

The Lyngen Alps, located in the Troms region, are a dramatic mountain range known for their jagged peaks and deep fjords. We spend 2 months each year during the winter in the region, bringing our ski & sail guests to experience the unique combination of Alpine thrills and majestic views over the fjords. The late arctic summer is the perfect time to navigate southwards through the fjords, keeping an eye out for diverse wildlife, including sea eagles, seals, orcas and the occasional whale, all whilst in anticipation of the spectacle the Lofoten Archipelago has to offer.

We set sail from Tromsø, known as the "Gateway to the Arctic". Many guests will opt for arriving a couple of days ahead of the departure to enjoy the many features of this vibrant city, where the Arctic wilderness meets urban charm. Surrounded by majestic mountains and fjords, Tromsø is also a pragmatic starting point for our passage, as it offers a well connected international airport and a good selection of stores and technical support to refurbish our boat.
We will head south, towards the heart of the Lofoten archipelago to explore its dramatic landscapes of mountain peaks, crystal-clear waters, and picturesque fishing villages. During our season, we first pass the Lofoten in the winter as we sail north towards the Lyngen Alps fpr our ski & sail season in March-April , but we love to rediscover the region under the warmth of the late summer, yet still removed from the peak cruising season, with countless anchorages to enjoy solo.
Continuing our journey, we will discover the regions, port towns and fishing villages nestled along the rugged coastline of central Norway including Bodø, Rørvik and Ålesund.
The daily sailing distances, subject to weather conditions, will range from 65 to 120 nautical miles. We will discuss with the participants if they wish to add longer legs, night shifts and venture further offshore or prefer more coastal routing, anchorages and disembarking for visits.
The destination port of Bergen is a historic city nestled between seven mountains and the gateway to the Norwegian fjords. In addition to its many points of interest it is a convenient point to disembark, with the airport less than 20 minute away from our main ports of entry.
